Goal of the programme: to prepare occupational diseases physicians. For this purpose is to provide specialists with knowledge and practical skills according to requirements of Latvian Occupational Physicians association in order to prepare physicians for certification in the field of occupational hygiene according to all legal requirements.

CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME

Theoretical education and practical skills: theoretical education – problem lectures one time per month every study year and seminars (3 seminars every month or 33 seminars every year).

Practical studies include following disciplines: 1st study year: occupational health and legislation, industrial hygiene and toxicology, statistics and IKT, occupational medicine and internal medicine, psychiatry, radiological medicine, psychotherapy, allergology, neurology; 2nd study year: rheumatology, pulmonology, phtysiatry, surgery, nephrology, cardiology, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, endocrinology; 3rd study year: hematology, infectious diseases, occupational and internal diseases, emergency and reanimatology, otorinolaringology, dermatology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, clinical microbiology; 4th study year: ergonomics and work physiology, occupational diseases and treatment of occupational diseases, practical classes in occupational medicine, rehabilitation of occupational diseases; pedagogical practice; research work.

Resident must be on duty in clinical disciplines. Resident also will conduct educational work as well as scientific research project.    

STUDY OUTCOMES

  • Knowledge: basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills on different working environment factors impact to human body
  • Skills: to provide know-how to use obtained knowledge in health care and occupational diseases prevention; patient examination, medical literature and use of legislation
  • Competencies: will be able to work as occupational diseases physician in both hospital and outpatient clinic settings, to provide health examinations of workers, to analyze the conditions (situations) of working environment, to choose appropriate methods and activities for reduction the impact of risk factors, to participate in decision-making discussions and to legally justify own opinion

Tests: 

  • Summarization of performance level of study program

  • Written examination of theoretical and practical knowledge

  • Presentation of research project. Residency State exam covers also exam for certification in speciality of Occupational health and occupational diseases physician

Study languages: Latvian and English.
