Goal of the programme: provide the theoretical knowledge and skills according to the demands of the regulations of the specialty (gastroenterology), to set the stage for the certification in the specialty agreeably to the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

- STUDY OUTCOMES
Extended and broadened knowledge and understanding of medicine and gastroenterology. The knowledge will comply with requirements for specialty certification and meet high standards in the field, both scientifically and professionally. It will ensure creative thinking in clinical practice and research, as well as improve abilities for working in multidisciplinary fields. Ability to recognize and define digestive tract disorders. Knowledge in etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, differential diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of the digestive diseases accordingly to the regulations of the specialty.
Independent use of medical problem-solving skills to make a highly qualified specialist in gastroenterology; professional role in disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, care and skill by practical manipulation, capable of running the health care organization, as well as education and research; independently formulate and critically analyze complex clinical medical problems, critically evaluate research in medical science, the required additional analysis if necessary to justify decisions, integrating a variety of medical fields, for example., surgery, radiology, oncology, knowledge, summed up the experience to contribute to new knowledge creation, research or professional career methods development, and demonstrate understanding of the ethical responsibility of a specialist professional performance, clinical and research potential impact on patients and society
Arguments to explain and discuss complex or systemic Gastroenterology and the general aspects of medical science with both specialists and non-specialists, patients, society; maintain collegial relationships and integrate into the team's work, i.e., the ability to work as a specialist Gastroenterologist, as well as independent to carry out consultations in the hospital and outpatients, as well as basic endoscopic examinations (upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and ileocolonoscopy) and abdominal ultrasound, to independently plan and organize your medical specialist professional competence in the development and evolution, to take responsibility for the staff group performance and the analysis to be able to do business, innovation in the medical specialty work, to be able to provide emergency medical assistance, further learning to work in complex and unpredictable circumstances and, if necessary, modify them with new approaches; to be able to push the analysis of gastroenterology literature, own and colleagues' work experience in representing the specialty interests of the public space and to organize workshops, seminars on the digestive tract disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention oriented measures.
Present and defend research work, to perform the final state exam.
