Describes how changes to DNA and chromosomes can affect gene function or dosage. Describes the main modes of Mendelian and non-Mendelian inheritance, clinical indicators that suggest an inherited predisposition to cancer, clinical features of common Mendelian diseases and chromosomal disorders. Recognizes the clinical implications of incomplete penetrance, variation in expression, anticipation, new mutations.
