Goal of the programme: ensuring acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in compliance with the requirements of the regulations for infectologist profession, in order to prepare doctors for obtaining certification in the infectologist profession corresponding to normative enactments of the Republic of Latvia.
Eligibility: MD degree.
- CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME
The study programme is based on acquiring theoretical knowledge, experience, and practical skills in aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, progress of illness, and treatment of infections diseases caused by microorganisms; differential diagnostics, specific laboratorial diagnostics; and non-specific prophylaxis of infectious diseases. Theoretical education is based on attending seminars, problem lectures as well as on participating in pedagogical and scientific research work
- STUDY OUTCOMES
Knowledge in epidemiology, clinical progress of infectious diseases, specific and provisional laboratorial diagnostics, acquired possibilities of indication for hospitalisation, laboratorial diagnostics, principles of treatment, medicament options.
Skills: referring for screening tests for specific laboratorial diagnostics and differential diagnostics of infectious diseases, prescribing other additional tests for specifying the diagnosis, interpreting the obtained results and accordingly adjust the treatment.
Competencies: perform highly qualified and specialised diagnostics, treatment, and prophylaxis of acute and chronic infectious diseases; participating in public health promotion and prophylaxis of infectious diseases.
Theoretical knowledge – in writing, at the end of each rotation discipline
Practical knowledge – orally, throughout all rotation discipline sessions
Residency State exam – at the end of the studies, consists of two parts: presentation of the scientific research paper and a test of theoretical knowledge
Study language: Latvian.
