Goal of the programme: to provide the theoretical knowledge, skills and competencies according to the demands of the regulations of the specialty of children's psychiatry, to prepare for the certification in the speciality of children's psychiatrist according to the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Eligibility: MD degree.

CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME

Practical study courses according to the programme, problem lectures, seminars; practical tutorials and supervisions; pedagogical practice; research.

STUDY OUTCOMES

Knowledge ofaddictionas a disease, itsprevalence, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and procedure (by ICD-10). Addiction emergency diagnostics, differential diagnosis, treatment, treatment with medical management, psychological and physiotherapeutic principles, addiction disease prevention, patient psychosocial rehabilitation, drug treatment service organization functioning at its ethical and legal principles of the division of powers between the different professionals' work in multidisciplinary team.

Skills used in drug addiction diagnostic and therapeutic methods, including objective and subjective drug addiction  history acquisition, the patient's mental status evaluation, monitoring and describing psychological and psychodiagnostic investigations narcologist special neurological investigation to the extent necessary, neurological disorder symptoms for detecting the basic skills of psychiatric care and treatment, basic psychotherapy skills, basic skills infectology; skills addiction expert examinations, diagnosing and differentiating psychoactive substances in a state of intoxication; psychopharmacotherapy and skills in dealing with drug addiction isused inmedical devices and technologies. Selects appropriate diagnostic investigation plan within the meaning oftests.

Competency: patient care, communication, andcollaboration skills interpersonal care organization and planning, ethical and legal issues, education and research that could provide addiction disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation.

Tests

  • Training time: master study programme in full: the rotation cycle of a visit, to attend 80 % of the theoretical measure

  • After each rotation of discipline theory test a matter of choice and/or questions in the form of clinical case analysis

  • Residency State exam consists of theory test questions and tests (in the form of clinical case studies) and scientific research advocacy
