Goal of the programme: to provide in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills in compliance with the requirements of the subspecialty of Neurophysiology to prepare for the award of certificate in Neurophysiology, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Eligibility: MD degree and certificate of Neurologist.

CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME

Theoretical seminars and courses – neurophysiologic examination and assessment; assessment and diagnostics of peripheral, central and autonomic nervous system dysfunction; theoretical mechanisms and examination of sensory and motor neurophysiology; long-term video-EEG monitoring; sleep disorders/ electrophysiological diagnosis; ultrasonography for peripheral nerve diagnostics.

STUDY OUTCOMES

Knowledge

Our graduates show in-depth knowledge and understanding in Neurophysiology; their knowledge meets the competency requirements of the specialty; their professional and the science competency is brought to the forefront, thus providing the basis for creative thinking in clinical practice and research, as well as the ability to operate in an interdisciplinary contact.

Skills

Our graduates are prepared to independently bring their skills into effect in neurophysiological problem-solving to carry out the functions of a qualified professional in the prevention, diagnostics and treatment of neurologic diseases; they skilfully perform all practical manipulations provided by the programme; they can operate in health care institutions, as well as in an instructional and research environment.

Competencies

A competent neurophysiologist – practitioner can formulate and analyze aspects and problems of Clinical Neurophysiology; he/she can deal with professional issues in Neurophysiology applying his/her skills and knowledge obtained; he/she can carry out additional analysis when necessary to substantiate a decision; our graduates can practically apply latest research and developments in the field, understanding and complying with the professional ethics.                      

Test

Tests after each study course and the Residency state exam, a written theory exam in form of questioning and presentation of research.

Study language: Latvian.
