Goal of the programme: to provide mastering and perfection of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in medical oncology in accordance with speciality regulation demands to prepare a doctor for the certification in medical oncology according to the normative documents of the Republic of Latvia and ESMO.

Eligibility: MD degree.

CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME

Theoretical education is based on theoretical seminars. According to the study programme length certain number of seminars is organized. Practical education in form of study courses according to the programme.

STUDY OUTCOMES

Knowledge: cancer prevention, molecular biology, genetics, epidemiology, ethiology, pathology, classification, clinical nanifestation, treatment methods. Follow up and rehabilitation of cancer patients.

Skills: evaluation of cancer risk in individuals, organisation of preventive measures. Awareness in cancer clinical manifestation, diagnostics, and multidisciplinar treatment in different clinical situations.

Competency: to provide mastering and perfection in medical oncology in accordance with speciality regulation demands to prepare a doctor for the certification in medical oncology according to the normative documents of the Republic of Latvia and ESMO.

Test: examination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills at the end of each study course by evaluating the results in 10 grade system; Residency state exam: defence of independent scientific research, report on executed work during residency and on qualification improvement activities; oral examination of the entire theoretical course.

Study language: Latvian.
