Goal of the programme: to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to of speciality regulation in paediatric infectious diseases in Latvia and prepare for certification in the specialty.

Eligibility: Certified pediatricians or after third year of residency in paediatrics.

Extended and broadened knowledge and understanding of child neurology, diseases of the central, peripheral and autonomic disturbances. The knowledge will comply with requirements for specialty certification and meet high standards in the field, both scientifically and professionally. It will ensure creative thinking in clinical practice and research. Ability to recognize and define child neurology disorders. Knowledge in ethiopathogenesis, diagnostics, differential diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of the child neurology disturbances and illnesses accordingly to the regulations of the specialty.

Skills that will allow to work safely, effectively, ethically and independently in clinical cases of child neurology disorders, illness and disturbances using diagnostic manipulations and examinations; to be able to perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, evaluate the neurological state, perform differential diagnosis and treatment procedures, skills to create the therapeutic physician and relatives relationship.

Competencies – knowledge, skills and attitude for clinical work and research, to make a diagnoses of diseases and treatment, to fill and draw up the medical document, public education via mass media, comprehension of teamwork, the way it works and consult for colleges, if it is necessary, to supervise physician and medical support personal


  • During training residents have to master full study program: all study courses are compulsory, the theoretical study - not less than 80%, at least on-call 48 hours a month, module tests for practical skills and theoretical knowledge;
  • Residency State exam:
    • theoretical test,
    • resident in the presence of the commission upholds the scientific, clinical or applied research,
    • commission submit a summary evaluation of the progress made during the study.
