Goal of the programme: to provide the theoretical knowledge, skills and competences accordingly the demands of the regulations of the specialty of child psychiatry, to prepare for the certification in the specialty of child psychiatrist according to the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Eligibility: MD degree, accomplished 2 study years in the speciality program Psychiatrist.

STUDY OUTCOMES

  • Knowledge about psychiatry regarding prevalence, aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, diagnostics and course of children and adolescents mental and behavioural disorders (according to ICD-10), treatment of child psychiatric emergencies, pharmacological treatment, basic principles of psychological and psychotherapeutical treatment, prophylaxis of mental disorders, social rehabilitation of patients; child and adolescent organisation, functioning, ethical and legal principles of work of psychiatric services, sub division of competences between different health care providers in the planning and organisation of care for mentally ill

  • Skills in diagnostic and treatment methods used in child and adolescents psychiatry, including taking subjective and objective case history, observation, assessment and description of patient’s conditions; psychological and psycho diagnostic assessment; neurological assessment in the amount necessary for psychiatrist; basic skills in narcological care and treatment; basic skills in psychotherapy, occupational and ergotherapy; skills in pharmacotherapy and work with medical devices and technologies used in child and adolescents psychiatry, psychological and psycho diagnostic tests and assessment methods in the amount necessary for child psychiatrist

  • Competences to conceptualise, understand and apply the diagnostic skills to investigate, elicit, describe and define psychopathological and other clinical findings; in clinical decision making; to recognise personal limits of expertise; in communication, cooperation and collaborations; professionalism; in leadership/management, planning and organisation of care, ethical and legal questions, education and research, which could provide prophylaxis, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation of mental and behavioural disorders; in management and supervision of the multidisciplinary team, to supervise physician and medical support personal.

Test
  • Training time – master study program in full: the rotation cycle of a visit, to attend 80% of the theoretical measure

  • After each rotation of discipline theory test a matter of choice and /or questions in the form of clinical case analysis

  • Residency State exam consists of theory test questions and tests in the form of clinical case studies and scientific research advocacy.
