Goal of the programme: Provide trainees with didactic framework, comprehensive training and experience necessary to succeed in specialty examination by the Latvian Association of Rehabilitologists.

Eligibility: MD.

CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME

Didactic framework of the basic sciences, interrelated disciplines, general rehabilitation medicine, functioning and disability, patients care, diagnostic technologies, technical aids, critical reading, evidence-based medicine, structure of UEMS.

Comprehensive training (study courses) and experience in the care of patients with wide range of physical impairments and disabilities (pediatrics, neurology, orthopaedics, rheumatology, internal diseases, oncology, geriatrics, acute rehabilitation, prevention of complications, outpatient rehabilitation), research work.

STUDY OUTCOMES

  • Knowledge in the basic sciences, interrelated disciplines, and medical rehabilitation; ability to recognize and define consequences of different illnesses, to formulate goals of rehabilitation and prevention of disability, to name different rehabilitation technologies and technical aids, to collect data for clinical research in rehabilitation, to organize the multi-professional team work.

  • Diagnostic and therapeutic skills which are both current and scientifically based. Skills necessary to critically analyze and communicate research literature as a basis for lifelong learning; skills to identify rehabilitation problems and functional abilities, to make assessment of patient, to prove the progress in rehabilitation management, to lead the multi-professional team.

  • Competence in the six core aspects of medical practice: patient care, medical knowledge, practice – based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism and systems – based practice. Comprehensive training and experience necessary to succeed in specialty examination.

Test: Residency State examination by joint committee from Rīga Stradiņš University and the Latvian Association of Rehabilitologists (in the future – examination by the European board of specialty): multi-choice question test, presentation of the clinical research work, clinical case report.

Study language: Latvian.
