Goal of the programme: to provide the theoretical knowledge and skills accordingly the demands of the regulations of the specialty of Pneumologist, to set the stage for the certification in the specialty agreeably to the laws and regulations in LR..

Eligibility: MD degree; certification in internal medicine; residents of internal medicine after two years training, continuing next two years of study according to training programme on pneumology.


Theoretical education is based on theoretical seminars. According to study programme length certain number of seminars are organized. Practical education in the form of study courses according to the programme.


Knowledge and understanding of pneumology. The knowledge will comply with requirements for speciality certification and meet high standards in the field, both scientifically and professionally. It will ensure creative thinking in clinical practice and research, as well as improve abilities for working in multidisciplinary fields. Ability to recognize and define lung diseases. Knowledge in etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics, differential diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of the lung diseases/TB accordingly to the regulations of the specialty.

Skills that will allow working safely, effectively, ethically and independently in clinical cases of lung diseases and TB; be able to perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, evaluate the lung function, perform differential diagnosis and treatment procedures.

Competencies: knowledge, skills and attitude for clinical work, research, public education via mass media, comprehension of teamwork, the way it works, the management of the multidisciplinary team; physician is able to use in practice acquired knowledge and skills, to make decisions and research without assistance.

Tests: knowledge tests at the end of each study course. Residency state exam consists of a multi-choice test with 560 questions, 55 theoretical questions; clinical case analysis; presentation of research work.
