Goal of the programme: to provide theoretical knowledge and skills accordingly to the demands of the regulations of the speciality of Vascular Surgery; set up the basis for the certification in the speciality in accordance with current regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

- CONTENT OF THE PROGRAMME
The Vascular Surgery training programme consists of the following:
Clinical operative surgery: abdominal surgery, cardiosurgery, kidney transplantology and haemodialysis, oncology, urology, maxillo-facial surgery, traumatology, vascular and paediatric surgery. The remaining three years of Vascular Surgery Program has a strong academic component: anaesthesiology and intensive care, vascular laboratory, interventional radiology, vascular surgery, phlebology. Each hospital complements the other with complexity of cases and trauma. The strength of this programme is its clinical volume and supervised training. The resident has the luxury of choice each day for the clinical work, operating room, ambulatory clinic experience, plus bi-weekly teaching rounds

- STUDY OUTCOMES
Extended and broadened knowledge and understanding of medicine, angiology, vascular surgery angioradiology, phlebology. The knowledge will comply with requirements for speciality certification and meet high standards in the field, both scientifically and professionally. It will ensure creative thinking in clinical practice and research, as well as improve abilities for working in multidisciplinary fields. Knowledge of etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of the aortic, arterial, venous and lymphatic disorders in accordance with the regulations of the speciality.
Skills that will allow to work safely, effectively, ethically and independently in clinical cases of vascular disorders, becoming able to perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, perform differential diagnosis and both surgical and endovascular treatment procedures, work in different medical therapies, critical leg and foot ischaemia, thoracoabdominal aortic dissection and aneurysms, aortic arch branches revascularisation and stroke prophylaxis, screening for vascular diseases.
