Description

Expected basic salary (taxable): EUR 5,000 per month; additional travel costs in recruitment process may be covered.

Eligibility: PhD degree in relevant field.

Research Field: Immunological visualisation

Career stage: Experienced researcher or >10 yrs (senior)

Research profile: An Experienced Researcher (R3) with focus on immunological modelling, visualisation of networks, maps, and data flows, system biology and large-scale data processing.

Selection criteria

Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic merit, as documented by high-impact publications in internationally peer-reviewed scientific journals, quality of their research proposal and its relevance to Augusts Kirhenšteins Institute of Microbiology and Virology.

Tasks

Upgrade competence at the Laboratory of Digital Immunological Visualisation (LDIV) in areas: microscopic immunovisualisation, integration with macroscopic methods, research processes optimisation based on new visualisation methods, new equipment use in study of immunological reactions and host-pathogen interactions; experience of work with Luminex, BD FACSAriaII flow cytometer/cell sorter and Randox Immunoassay Analyzer “Evidence Investigator”; support to development of the LDIV; permanent support on methods to existing research groups at RSU; identification of perspective research directions based on the existing research stock at RSU; advising the clinical researchers on protocols for disease-related immunovisualisation; upgrade of the early-stage researcher’s competence in immune modelling; support to immunological investigations in highly promising research in dermatology and neurology, governance of quality assurance measures in immunological research; participation in on-going projects at participating entities (Latvian Council of Science grants, National Research programmes); preparation of new proposals in the H2020, ERA instruments, national instruments, international calls; fostering of networking activities based on contributing contacts and competencies; advice on GLP in immunology in applied research; support to internal evaluation at RSU.

Research profile: An Experienced Researcher (R3) with focus on in-silico modelling of infections, macroscopic bio-mathematical modelling of infectious diseases and systems biology of pathogens.

Selection criteria

Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic merit, as documented by high-impact publications in internationally peer-reviewed scientific journals, quality of their research proposal and its relevance to Augusts Kirhenšteins Institute of Microbiology and Virology.

Tasks

Support the development of the Laboratory of Infectious Disease Modelling; modern modelling-based approach integration into the on-going research; digital data management instantiation, bioinformatics support; experimental design support on infectious diseases research, upgrade of e-based monitoring and surveillance of research processes; advice on modelling tools (mathworks), system’s biology modelling toolboxes (genexplain); building of optimal open-source factory for research tasks; guiding of early-stage researchers on their carrier pathways related to modern modelling approaches; participation in on-going research contributing with effective optimal modelling methodologies; preparation of new proposals in the H2020, ERA instruments, national instruments; fostering of networking activities based on contributing contacts and competencies; guiding of IP development in the area of innovative e-based technologies to detection, diagnosis, monitoring of infectious diseases; collaborating with other institutions, development of pilot models for infectious dynamics on a regional matrix; modelling in a multi-center setup; large-scale clinical data management; support to internal evaluation at RSU.
