Head of Mission, Embassy of Korea, congratulates RSU folk dancers on achievements in international festival
On Tuesday, 1 November, at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Latvia the Head of Mission Mr Kyong-Ho Min met with representatives of Rīga Stradiņš University folk dance ensemble Ačkups Ms Olga Boka and Mr Kārlis Rācenis (see picture below) to congratulate them on winning the 3rd place at the Cheonan World Dance Festival 2016, held in the Republic of Korea from 26 September till 2 October.
During the meeting, the Head of Mission emphasised that cultural events such as these promote mutual understanding and cooperation, therefore bringing Latvia and Korea closer to each other. “I am happy to see the direction in which our bilateral relations are developing. This year the choir Kamēr…, ballet dancers of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet and Latvian folk dancers have amazed and won over hearts and minds of thousands of Koreans during their performances in Korea. Recently one of the most promising Korean traditional music bands, GongMyoung, gave a performance at the Great Guild in Rīga, and last week we witnessed two truly touching concerts by the musicians of the Korean philanthropic organisation “Beautiful Mind Charity”. On both occasions, the musicians were well received and praised for their uniqueness. It once again reaffirms mutual interest in continuation of active cooperation, not only in culture, but also in other areas, such as politics, economy and trade, education etc.,” Mr Min acknowledged.
Dancers of the Ačkups ensemble told us that they felt warmly welcomed in Korea and could observe Koreans' keen interest in Latvian folk dances and costumes. “Visitors of the festival approached us and gave really good feedback about our performances, they were interested in taking photos with us. For Ačkups, it was the first trip to the Republic of Korea, so we feel fortunate for the opportunity to visit this distant land and present part of the Latvian culture there,” say O. Boka and K. Rācenis.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of Mission wished them endurance and good luck during the preparation process for the 65th anniversary concert and the upcoming Nationwide Song and Dance Festival to be held in 2018.
