On 3 December 2010 the annual Intercultural Evening took place at RSU with more than 70 international students participating. The programme of the evening included all sorts of various activities, including forming of the Human Map, an Intercultural Quiz and culture presentation by Latvian folk group Laiksne.
The evening started with an opening address by the Vice-Rector for Development of RSU Mr Toms Baumanis.
The Human Map included all attendees forming a map of the world according to the place they were born in. We established that RSU students are a varied bunch indeed, furthest East coming from the Philippines, furthest West from Portugal, furthest North from the North of Norway and furthest South from Italy.
Probably the most fun part of the evening were several traditional Latvian games that were played. But in order to bring some competitiveness to the evening, we also played a "no-cheating" Intercultural Quiz, throughout which some of the participants discovered new things about their own countries and cultures!
Could you, for example, say what does "Spain" literally translated mean? Is it A,B, C or D?
A) Land of the Sun
B) Land of rabbits
C) Land of pain
D) Land of hope
As it turns out, the correct answer is B.
Thanks to all those who participated and we hope to see you again next year!
