Academician Jānis Stradiņš makes a speech
during the launch of the exhibition.
A unique exhibition, Stradiņš ‘Code’, was launched at the RSU Museum’s showroom, 16 Dzirciema Street, on 25 January. The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Stradiņš family.
"The name of Rīga Stradiņš University symbolises the family name, hence this exhibition reveals the history of the well-known family of scientists. Many descendants bearing the Stradiņš family name, have impressed the world with their professionalism and have gained recognition far beyond the borders of Latvia. We are going to tell a story about the values and ethical principles inherited over many generations," mentions Daiga Dupate, Director of the RSU Museum.
Academician Jānis Stradiņš stresses the value of human endowment and energy as opposed to being a member of a certain clan. „Everyone should find their mission in life. We are people of diverse backgrounds, various mentalities and individual experiences,” he says.
Majority of the family members have had common positive characteristics. Academician Jānis Stradiņš mentions a few: "We have been active, democratic, self-critical and sufficiently intelligent, have had high aims, respect towards our national identity, and have had an independent view on things."
The exhibition will reveal the genealogy of the Stradiņš family with a collection of photographs that cover the period from the early 20th century until nowadays, various exhibits of the RSU Museum, as well as loans of collaborative museums and private collections. Among the exhibits you will see various interesting objects related to the Stradiņš’ family, as well as the wax figure of Professor Pauls Stradiņš – currently borrowed from the Munchausen museum.
The Stradiņš ‘Code’ exhibition will remain on display until 24 March.
