Rīga Stradiņš University’s medical, healthcare, political and communications study programmes have earned the highest rating, show the recent official reports by the Higher Education Council’s experts on the study directions provided by RSU.
The evaluation of several RSU study programmes was carried out in the spring of 2012 under the framework of the European Social Fund’s project “Higher Education Curriculum for Quality Assessment and Improvement”.
Conducted by higher education quality experts from Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, the evaluation process was targeted at study programme contents, study process, academic staff qualification, scientific activities, and student feedback.
It covered the strategically most important study programmes such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Art Therapy, Orthotics/Prosthetics, Paediatrics, Residency in Medicine, Public Health, Nutritional Sciences, Midwifery, Politics and State Administration, International Relations – European Studies, Sociology of Organisation and Management, Social Anthropology etc. According to the Council, the study programmes offered by RSU have been recognised as sustainable and the programme quality was given the highest ranking, placing all of them in the first group.
As a result of the evaluation, the number of top-rated RSU study programmes has enlarged, adding the healthcare and social sciences degree programmes to those that had undergone sustainability accreditation previously (bachelor’s programmes in Journalism, Public Relations and Multimedia Communication, and master’s programmes in Communication & Media Studies and Strategic Management & Public Relations, provided by the University’s Faculty of Communications). The other RSU study programmes are still being assessed.
