The Lithuanian resort town of Palanga has been hosting the Sports for All (Sportas visiems) festival for several years, where, traditionally, gymnastics is one of the highlights. As a five-time participant, the RSU aesthetic group gymnastics team was certainly not a newbie at the event, so winning the festival cup for the best performance was a great way to conclude the season in style.
‘RSU student and employee teams alike have won awards at the festival in the past five years. This time, we saw the late addition of three RSU students from Germany and Finland – Nadia Averbeck, Laura Mustonen and Mila Jokio – who joined the rest of the team just in time to learn the entire programme and eventually put on an excellent performance in Palanga,’ says coach Maruta Hoferte, thanking everyone involved for their contribution to the successful ending of the season.
The next academic year holds a few challenges for the RSU gymnastics team with a number of already scheduled festival and gymnaestrada appearances in Latvia and abroad. Meanwhile, the University’s employee team continues to practice hard – it is going to represent RSU and Latvia at the Golden Age festival in Italy later this year (30 September – 6 October).
