RSU students are welcome to attend the educational seminar "Psychosomatic Health — Opportunities and Challenges" on 20 March 2013, organized by RSU Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy in collaboration with the Association of European Physicians for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy (AEPM). The 90-minute seminar starts at 14:00 (location: lecture-hall #3, Block C, RSU main building, 16 Dzirciema Street). Working language: English.
Psychosomatics specifically addresses human emotional condition and ongoing processes in it by which the human nervous system directly regulates the activity of body's internal organs — and thus determines the body condition.Nowadays it is important for every doctor to understand the causes and formation course of the various psychosomatic symptoms, because the time in which we live is full of stress, depression, crises and hard experiences. Often particularly the emotional factor is the cause of bodily illness.

Bernhard Palmowski, MD, has specialized in internal medicine, as well as in psychotherapy, psychosomatic medicine and psychoanalysis. Dr Bernhard Palmowski heads Berlin/Brandenburg German Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy Association, he is a scientific committee member of the magazine “Ärztliche Psychotherapie und Psychosomatische Medizin”, as well as performs the functions of a board advisor of the Association of European Physicians for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy (AEPM).
Matthias Rose, MD, PhD, heads Psychosomatic Medicine Centre in one of the most recognized clinics in Germany — Medical Clinic of the Charité, Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Harvard University in Boston and University of Massachusetts (USA) are his additional workplaces where he gives lectures in modern psychometrics as a visiting professor. His work contribution is acknowledged by the number of awards, including Lilly Quality of Life Award, Heinrich Bauer award for contribution to diabetes treatment and Teacher of the Year Award from the University Clinic Hamburg.
Jacques van der Vliet, MD is the chairman of the Working Group on Mental Health stimulating awareness in the field of mental health. He is also the chairman of the Working Group on Active and Healthy Ageing and the chairman of the working group on Health and Safety. End of 2011 a CPME position on Stigma and Social Exclusion was adopted under his supervision.
