RSU Academic Ball: In Honour of Art, Science and Truth

RSU balle 2013 revOn 6 April, students of Rīga Stradiņš University, staff and special guests are invited to Academic Ball which will take place in Riga Latvian Society House. The best students and staff members will receive traditional RSU Annual Award, followed by musical and dance performances, photo and fortune telling salons, mime performances, charity campaign and various surprises.

The official part of the programme will start at 19:00 with student anthem “Gaudeamus Igitur” and welcome address by Professor Jānis Gardovskis, RSU rector, followed by the Awards ceremony.

Afterwards, guests are invited to a unique performance — renewed song cycle “A Lamp and Night-moths” composed by Raimonds Pauls in 1983, lyrics by Jānis Peters. The entire song cycle has not been performed for almost 30 years, therefore, this year on the initiative of the choir “Rīga” and RSU, a new arrangement of songs has been made. Songs will be performed by RSU mixed choir “Rīga” and instrumental band. Conductor: Zane Zilberte; solo singer: Zigfrīds Muktupāvels; piano: Raimonds Pauls.

After the concert guests are welcome to enjoy a glass of wine and refreshments. The ball will be held in three halls at the same time. Dances will begin at 21:00 in the Great Hall with a polonaise followed by the performance by Jelgava Big Band (leader: Raitis Ašmanis), soloists, band “Bet Bet”, dance group “Evita”. Bands “Gain Fast” and “The Picture” will perform in the Golden Hall. Cafe in the White Hall will offer a lounge atmosphere to enjoy conversations. By placing a finger into a special device, called emograph, it will transform heartbeats into light and colour mosaic. Besides, guests are welcome to find out the way heartbeat can create a unique piece of art. Project authors: creative society “I did it” and video artist Mikus Meirāns. At 22:50, rector will share the cake.
