The Faculty of Dentistry of Rīga Stradiņš University will be hosting the next Annual Meeting of the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) in Rīga from 27th till 30th August 2014.
Participants from Europe and all over the world engaged in dental education – academic, scientific and technical staff, deans, heads of the study programmes and dental schools, teachers and students – are welcome to attend the 40th ADEE Annual meeting, and so are manufacturers and distributors of dental equipment, instruments and materials.
The key topic of the programme is Emerging new approaches to dental education. A wide range of issues will be discussed during the meeting, among them dental school experience in curriculum development, modern assessment methods, use of advanced teaching methods and training devices, ethics and communication, overcoming psychological barriers and resistance to innovation.
In February 2013, the Association’s Winter Executive meeting was held at the Dental Institute of RSU, during which the Executive Committee members met with the senior management of RSU and the Faculty of Dentistry, visited the venues and discussed the preliminary programme and plans for the 2014 with Professor Ilze Akota, RSU Vice-Rector for Education at the time, Professor Ingrīda Čēma, Dean of the Faculty, and Professor Ilga Urtāne, Director of the Institute.
The ADEE newsletter (Volume 9 Issue 1, April 2013) mentions the visit to RSU's Faculty of Dentistry, member of the Association since 2001, and the annual meeting in Rīga scheduled for August 2014. Since the first ADEE meeting that was held in France in 1975, such meetings have taken place in different European countries, but it has never been hosted by a Baltic country.
Simultaneously with the ADEE meeting, the European Dental Students’ Association (EDSA) will also be holding a meeting to address contemporary issues in dental education.
