An exhibition dedicated to the Library of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is currently on display on the ground floor in Block K of the main building of our university at 16 Dzirciema Street. The exhibition will remain open until 30 April.
The significance of the library in the university cannot be doubted. It has always been the most essential link in academic and scientific work. 21st century marks orientation towards sustainability, therefore, library is important for anyone willing to learn for the entire life. This year Riga holds the title of the European Capital of Culture, and the word “library” has been widely used by the media and in the society.
The Library of RSU forms a significant part of the network of libraries in Latvia, especially academic libraries. The library is under constant development, and Ināra Aploka, director of the library, promises that “library staff has always been hardworking and creative and we will strive for maintaining the high level of professionalism, as there are plenty of plans for future with an overall aim to ensure that over 12000 users of RSU library, among them students, academic staff, professionals in the field of medicine and health care, specialists of leading pharmaceutical companies, would obtain all necessary information both from Latvia and abroad.”
The exhibition developed by the staff of RSU Library and Museum provides a brief insight into the history of our university’s storage of printed materials. Its development from 1950s till nowadays is portrayed in photo materials. Library furniture dated back to 1960s deposited from our cooperation partner National Library of Latvia creates the ancient atmosphere.
Today information technologies have become an integral part of our library allowing accessing any book storage in the world and using catalogues. RSU library is one of the links in this long chain.
