This year’s Academic Ball for RSU students, staff and special guests will be held at the Ziemeļblāzma culture palace on Friday, 12 April. The aim of the event is to look back at the achievements of the past year. The best students and staff members will receive the traditional RSU Annual Award, and the ceremony will be followed by a concert and dancing.
The official part of the programme will start at 19:00 at the Great Hall of the palace with student anthem Gaudeamus Igitur and a welcome address by professor Jānis Gardovskis, RSU rector, followed by the Awards ceremony. The nominations for the RSU Annual Award are as follows: Student of the Year, Graduate Student of the Year, Medical Resident of the Year, Doctoral Student of the Year, Lecturer of the Year, Scientist of the Year, and Administration Employee of the Year.
RSU choir Rīga, folk dance ensemble Ačkups and an instrumental band which will dedicate their performances to Riga will perform during the ceremony. Also, for the first time our choir’s new CD with the cycle of songs Spuldze un nakts taureņi (The Bulb and the Moths) and Mīlestības dziesmas (Love Songs) will be presented to the public.
After the concert all the guests will be invited to have a glass of wine and refreshments on the 1st floor halls and in the café.
The dancing will begin at 20:45 at the Great Hall with a polonaise. First dance tour will be accompanied by the National Armed Forces' Big Band from Liepāja. Afterwards the Big Band from Jelgava under the supervision of Raitis Ašmanis will perform. This performance will be supported by the lead singers Aija Vītoliņa and Normunds Rutulis. Afterwards the dance studio Evita will perform.
Tonick and Miks Dukurs’ band will perform live music in the Chamber Hall; both performances will be supplemented with a DJ performance.
The cafe will be opened for visitors, and one will also have a chance to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere in the conversation area at the Banquet Hall. Exhibition halls will be opened as well. It will be also possible to visit the park and the watchtower.
Fortune teller’s salon and Imants Prēdelis photo salon will be working during the event.
The Academic Ball cake will be presented at 22:45.

The bus will be running between the event venue and the city centre every half an hour from 23:30 to 2:30.
Academic Ball dress code tips:
Entrance cards can be purchased at the box office in the main building of RSU (16 Dzirciema Street, ground floor). The price is EUR 5.00 for RSU students (EUR 10.00 for others).
