At the end of January, RSU saw the enrolment of 222 full time international students in study programmes “Medicine” and “Dentistry” maintaining the status of RSU as the Baltic leader in terms of educating international students. This admission is remarkable for RSU as the biggest amongst all winter semester intakes in terms of candidate applications received.

There are currently 1761 international students at RSU – a number that constitutes almost 22 % of the total number of our students (7875). Currently, RSU students represent 52 different countries and even more nationalities. International students come from various ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds which is a great added value to multicultural environment of RSU.

Māris Ginters, Head of the International Admissions Office: "Even though the majority of new international students represent such European countries as Germany, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, we are happy to see the interest about RSU growing in other parts of the world. For instance, RSU saw an increase of applications from India and Sri Lanka – we used to have many students from these two countries ten and more years ago but not in the past decade."

Every single admission there are students who represent countries that RSU has never had students from. Māris Ginters indicates that "last year we welcomed our first students from Brazil, Taiwan, Belarus, Cyprus and China. In February 2016, RSU international community was enriched by the very first students from New Zealand and Singapore. Thus, we believe that RSU – and also Latvia in general – is becoming more attractive as a study destination for applicants from all over the world."

From 25 till 29 January RSU was organizing the Welcoming or Orientation week for the arriving first semester students to get to know each other, Rīga and RSU.
