Following best practices of the world’s top universities, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has recently commenced an ambitious plan to enhance the university campus at 16 Dzirciema Street. The plan includes the construction of several buildings around its main complex and modernisation of RSU facilities, thus improving the landscape for the benefit of RSU students, staff and local community. For the construction of the new campus and the attraction of human resources, EU's funding for the development of higher education and research infrastructure will be used, thus creating new workplaces and export-capable research products and education at the global level.
This autumn RSU will start the construction of the student hostel at 5 Dārza Street with 135 rooms, several of them adjusted for students with disability. The hostel will feature rooms for recreation, studies and student organisations, parking lots next to the building and in the basement, laundry, auxiliary premises and bicycle parking facilities.
In addition to the hostel, RSU is planning to expand the facilities of the Faculty of Dentistry at 20 Dzirciema Street. This building houses RSU Dental Institute and units of Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital. Over the next few years RSU will acquire a number of additional rooms and renovate them by adjusting to the needs of studies and research.
This past January RSU purchased a plot of land, 8,913 m2 in size, at 20 Konsula Street, next to the main building of the university, for 1,080,000 euro. This was the last vacant plot close to RSU main building, and it was purchased for RSU own funds on the grounds of the decision taken by RSU Senate. In conformity with the regulations for the construction, RSU plans to construct the complex of buildings for studies and research.
