On 15 April in Stockholm, the Embassy of Latvia in Sweden in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, hosted a meeting with the participation of representatives from various Latvian institutions of higher education. The aim of the meeting was to foster Latvian higher education export, and during the meeting the representatives from various institutions of higher education introduced the ambassadors and the staff of various embassies with study opportunities in Latvia. According to Latvia's ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden Gints Jegermanis, such meetings provide a great opportunity for the staff of accredited non-resident embassies to get introduced with study opportunities of Latvian institutions of higher education for international students and serve as a platform for establishing professional contacts.

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) was represented by the Director of the International Department Baiba Pētersone. She gave a presentation on study programmes with English as a language of instruction and RSU’s achievements in attracting and educating international students. She also discussed an opportunity for non-resident ambassadors to pay a visit to RSU. In May, H.E. Renuka Damayanthie Rajapakse, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Sweden, has scheduled a visit to RSU, whereas, in September RSU will welcome H.E. Jose Júlio Pereira Gomes, Ambassador of Portugal. Moreover, negotiations with Mr George Loizou, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Cyprus, were held on promoting RSU study programmes in Cyprus with support of the Embassy. In January 2017 RSU International Department is planning to host RSU Open Day at the Embassy of Latvia to Sweden.

During the meeting, the Director of the Department of Higher Education, Science and Innovations to the Ministry of Education and Science Agrita Kiopa gave an overview on the system of higher education of Latvia, whereas, the Project Manager of the Academic Information Centre Inga Seikstule presented the activities within the frame of Study in Latvia. Besides RSU, the representatives from the following institutions of higher education were among participants: Rector of Rīga Technical University Leonīds Ribickis and RTU Vice-Rector Igors Tipāns, Rector of the Stockholm School of Economics in Rīga Anders Paalzow, Rector of Rīga Graduate School of Law George Ulrich, Acting Rector of Liepaja University Māra Zeltiņa and others.
