Title:
Guest lecture on phenomenological bioethics
Date:
16.11.2017 10:30 - 12:00

Description

RSU Department of Humanities invites those interested to attend a guest lecture by visiting professor Fredrik Svenaeus (Södertörn University, Sweden) titled "Phenomenological Bioethics. Medical Technologies, Human Suffering, and the Meaning of Being Alive".

Prof. Fredrik Svenaeus’ lecture is dedicated to phenomenological bioethics, a new approach in bioethics which uses phenomenology to analyze and deepen our understanding on contemporary bioethical issues created by the development of biology and medical technologies (reproductive technologies, genetic diagnosis, organ transplantation etc.). Although phenomenological insights have already been widely used in medical philosophy and bioethics, prof. Svenaeus’ newly published book "Phenomenological Bioethics. Medical Technologies, Human Suffering, and the Meaning of Being Alive" (2017) provides the first systematic and elaborated account in phenomenological bioethics by paying attention to such experiential aspects as suffering, embodiment, empathy and death.
