There are several faculties at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), which offer studies in the fields of medicine and healthcare, e.g. pharmacy, rehabilitation, public health and nursing. However, studies in these faculties primarily take place in Latvian and individual applications from prospective students who speak English only, are not accepted. RSU provides full-time studies in the Faculty of Medicine in the "Medicine" study programme and in the Faculty of Dentistry in the "Dentistry" study programme. Consider studying medicine or dentistry in Latvia for new and interesting experiences! Professional study programme in MedicineIf you wish to study medicine in Latvia, the Faculty of Medicine offers professional education, with the opportunity to study under the guidance of professors from Latvian universities and from abroad. With this programme you will acquire up-to-date knowledge and skills, which are competitive in Europe and throughout the world.
Programme goals: The goal of the programme is to prepare academically educated and professionally qualified doctors, to provide society with high level modern medical care. Programme goals: The goal of the “Dentistry” study programme is to prepare students to be qualified dentists whose knowledge and practical skills permit them to practice in general dentistry – to treat patients with oral cavities and tooth illnesses, as well as to be able to present practical and educational events on the prevention of dental illness. Course structure: Like in other universities, studies in the Dentistry programme are divided into two blocks consisting of preclinical studies and specific subjects related to dentistry. During preclinical studies, students master general medical subjects like anatomy, biology, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology and many others. However, these courses are supplemented by dental subjects, which are held at the five departments of the Faculty of Dentistry. Further Study: Upon the successful completion of the study programme, you will be conferred the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery authorising you to practice under the supervision of a certified dentist. You will also be able to continue your education in the post-graduate study programme residency in orthodontics, teeth prosthetics, endodontics, periodontics, paediatric dentistry or maxillofacial surgery. Currently the majority of international students studying at the RSU are from Sweden, Germany and Norway, however there are students from many other countries, 17 altogether.
