The Bachelor’s programme of Journalism offers training of academically educated specialists who can use the acquired academic knowledge purposefully for the benefit of the practical media environment. The synthesis of academic and professional knowledge is the key to the advantages and uniqueness of the programme.

Aim of Study programme:

The aim of the programme is to ensure the training of highly qualified specialists for the media market of the EU and Latvia as well as for academic purposes, i.e. research and teaching improving the field of media by providing newly qualified experts.

Main objectives of Study Programme:

  • Provide students with theoretical knowledge about various subjects of the communication sciences and methods of communication research.
  • Introduce students with the theory of journalism and practice in news and press agencies, electronic mass media and the Internet.
  • Encourage students to participate in international exchange programmes and gain experience during short-term academic visits to the universities of the EU and other European countries.

Assessment methods:

At the Faculty of Communications, the module system is used. The length of a course is 5 weeks; usually amounting to 10 classes (6 lectures and 4 seminars). Upon a successful completion of a course, at the end of the 5th week the student takes an exam. An important part of the evaluation and assessment system is participation in lectures, quality of answers in seminars, writing problem essays, passing tests and exams.
