The name of the RSU student folk dance group Ačkups comes from an old Latvian dance. The group was founded in 1951, and already in 1975 it was awarded the status of a National Dance Group.
From 1967 until 1995, the leader and soul of the dance group was Mr Juris Bērziņš. The present leader of the dance group is Ms Elita Treilone.
Members of the Ačkups dance group include promising physicians, dentists and other RSU students, as well as graduates and students from other universities. The rehearsals are extremely spirited and lively within this student dance group, since all of them enjoy rehearsing and performing traditional Latvian folk dances. Should you choose to apply, you will make new friends not only from Latvia, but from other countries as well. If you want to express yourself in dance, acquire new friends and take back with you unforgettable memories, join Ačkups!
Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 19.30, 17 Mārupes St., the University's Student Hostel.
