Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Theoretical knowledge of preclinical courses. General theoretical knowledge and practical skills in clinical medicine (internal diseases, infectious disases, pediatrics, surgery, neurology, gynaecology and obstetrics, psychosomatics, especially, diagnostics, differential diagnostics, treatment and prevention).
Objective:
To gain understanding about competences of a family physician and pecularities of patient management in primary health care. Using clinical cases, to learn: a) communication specifics with individuals under lifelong and wholistic care, as well as their relatives; b) syndromologic and nozologic diagnostics, differentialdiagnostics in primary health care; c) intergration of public and individual health promotion and preventive measures; d) team work specifics in primary health care; e) patient management options in primary health care. To introduce with documentation and legislation in primary health care, as well as use of diagnostic equipment in primary health care clinics.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Students are refreshing knowledge gained in previous study courses, especially the guidelines of most common acute and chronic conditions in primary health care. Students use provided worksheets to prepare themselves for discussion of clinical cases in the workshops. Students use available simulators to improve their practical skills.
Assessment Criteria:
1) Participation in all workshops and/or submission of worksheets to get access to the exam. 2) Cumulative assessment (50%) consisting of at least 10 multiple choice questions per theme. 3) A written exam (50%) consisting of a clinical case with ten open questions related to themes included in workshps and lectures.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Successful completion of the course will allow student to: • understand the role of family physician in health care; • define syndromologic and nozologic diagnosis in primary health care; • draw up investigation and/or treatment plan for a patient in primary health care; • organize individual health promotion and preventive measures, including immunization and cancer screening; • understand team work in primary health care and cooperation options with secondary and tertiary care specialists; • know and apply some of diagnostic manipulations often used in primary health care.
Skills:Successful completion of the course will allow student to communicate with primary health care team, patients and their relatives, as well as to use diagnostic equipment, draw-up treatment and examination plan of a patient of all ages in primary health care.
Competencies:Successful completion of the course will allow student to work in primary health care under a supervision of a family physician.
