Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Latvian and English Alphabet.
Objective:
To acquire skills and knowledge on correct reading, writing, usage and explanation of anatomical and clinical terms, to integrate the knowledge of Latin in studying other subjects and scientific work using the obtained knowledge in professional settings.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
According to the thematic plan students acquire vocabulary forms of the noun and adjective, case endings, work with the dictionary, additional materials and the Internet sources for deeper comprehension of the language/terminology; do regular online home assignments resulting in at least 55% of work done, as well as online revision exercises before the test. For the online revision tasks assigned to evaluation being done before the test, students get from 55% to 100% which correspondingly equals to 1,65% to 3% of the test evaluation (in %). At the end of the course students are obliged to fill in the course evaluation questionnaire
Assessment Criteria:
Regularly completed online home assignments of 55%, as well as at least 55% online revision tasks assigned to evaluation till each online test-taking date. The performance of these requirements allows students to take the final online test/Testum finale. Sitting for the Testum finale students have to get at least 55% in order the test is passed. These 55% account for the correct answers together with online revision tasks assigned to evaluation from 1,65% to 3%. The test assesses skills to make agreement of words, identifying the words and correct endings; skills to write correctly, to explain and classify the terms.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful completion of the study course the students will know: • basic rules in reading and writing medical terms; • rules for making, explaining and using anatomical and clinical terms; • how to interpret terminology acquired in anatomy, as well as terms neccessary in scientific and professional work.
Skills:On successful completion of this study course the students will be able to: • read and write the medical terms correctly; • identify, form, explain, classify and compare medical terms; • interpret the Latin proverbs, understand their meaning.
Competencies:On successful completion of the course the students will be able to use anatomical terms in academic, scientific and professional settings.
