The Department of Health Psychology and Paedagogy is focused on the implementation of modern, high quality research and education in psychological support (including psychology, art therapy) and pedagogy fields in the context of healthcare. The research and education process is enriched by experience and contacts received from international collaborations.

Main tasks

  • Scientific research
    • Promote the involvement of academic staff in research and the validation of research results in high-level publications, conferences and symposiums, as well as advance research result transfer to technological solutions,
    • Organise international conferences and academic readings,
    • Encourage students to get involved in research projects carried out by the department that integrate teaching and research, for example The Vertical Integration Project Psychological Help and Self-Help,
    • Produce monographs and collections of scientific articles.
  • Carry out methodological work in psychological support (psychology and art therapy) and pedagogy by
    • developing and implementing study courses at all levels of psychology study programmes, and providing their methodological basis,
    • developing opportunities for student internships,
    • offering continuing and professional development courses for professionals.
  • Develop and maintain international and local collaborations with other universities, employers and social partners.
  • Provide advice and expertise on psychological support and educational issues.
  • Promote the professional development of the Department's staff.

The lecturers of The Department of Health Psychology and Paedagogy participate in several research projects, lecture 82 study courses in 27 study programmes at all levels. The department has working groups in the following areas: research development, psychological support in working with different client and patient groups, counselling and intervention development, professional identity, competence development, assessment tools and methods. All lecturers participate in the working groups and each group has specific tasks in regard to study courses, methodological work and scientific research.
