Olympic winter fun
On 9 February the XXIII Winter Olympic Games were opened with a solemn opening ceremony at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium (South Korea). 35 Latvian athletes are among the 92 countries represented in the Winter Games. Historically the students of Rīga Stradiņš University have been active in various winter sports activities.
If we look back at the University’s sporting history, many years ago we even had our own ski team. For example, in February 1964 the ski team of Riga Medical Institute (the former name of RSU) participated in Riga 2nd Sports Games where our men’s team crossed the finish line second in the 10 km race but our women’s team came home with the bronze medal. The Rīga Medical Institute ski racing competition was held every spring at the beginning of March.
