On 4 October 2016, Deputy Director of Euro-Asian Social Development Research Institute of the State Council Li Shaojie, Researcher and Professor of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Zhu Xiaozhong and CASS researcher Zhao Huirong visited RSU Confucius Centre.

Head of the centre Una Bērziņa-Čerenkova and Project Coordinator Chen Hongmei gave a presentation that covered the following topics: Latvia’s political, economic and social situation, operation and research directions of Rīga Stradiņš University, cooperation projects of RSU Confucius Centre and activities within the framework of “16+1” platform. It is an initiative by the People's Republic of China aimed at intensifying and expanding cooperation with 11 EU Member States and 5 Balkan countries in the fields of investments, transport, finance, science, education, and culture. In 2016, Latvia is entrusted with the responsibility to organise the 16+1 events – The Fifth Meeting of Heads of Government, Business Forum, National Coordinators’ Meeting and The First Transport Ministers’ Meeting.

RSU Confucius Centre promotes Chinese culture and language at academic levels, organises language courses and exchange programmes and participates in the development of Latvian – Chinese joint research projects.
