Recognition

At the Quality Innovation Award Ceremony held on 8 February in Bilbao, Spain, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) received the Quality Innovation Award in the category Education Sector Innovations for the integration of 3D Moog SIMODONT® Dental Trainer simulators into the training of dentistry students. The award certificate has been signed by the President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinisto as the innovation award originates from Finland.

3D Moog SIMODONT® Dental Trainer are 3D dental training simulators that have been installed in the Faculty of Dentistry and provide a realistic feel in a virtual training environment. The flexible software interface ensures maximum flexibility for the creation of new applications and a progressive control solution, i.e. a unique control mechanism with a power sensor ensures high precision. The technology and the patented control algorithm ensure a broad-spectrum movement force intensity.

Since 2007 the international innovation competition is organised by the Finnish Quality Association (Laatukeskus Excellence Finland) to recognise innovative solutions and technologies at a national and international level. A quality innovation:

  • has novelty value and is timely
  • is practical and can be implemented
  • has been developed in a systematic way
  • corresponds to the current and future needs of stakeholders
  • improves technical, social or commercial performance

This year there were over 450 applicants from Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain, Kazakhstan, Israel, China and Russia competing for the excellence of their innovations in different categories. The international recognition is proof of RSU development and constant progress in improvingthe quality of education.
