The first graduation ceremony marking the centenary of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Red Cross Medical College was held on Tuesday 4 February. At the winter graduation ceremony, the college awarded first level professional higher education diplomas to 34 young healthcare specialists, among them 8 emergency medicine physician’s assistants and 26 pharmacist’s assistants.

‘Congratulations to the RSU Red Cross Medical College on their centenary graduation ceremony and to all the graduates. Latvian healthcare institutions will today gain many highly qualified professionals. I wish for you graduates to continue your professional growth and the doors of your Alma mater will always be open to you. Our strength lies in cooperation,’ said RSU Rector Professor Aigars Pētersons.

In 2016, the college established the Pharmacy study programme in cooperation with RSU, which grants a pharmacist’s assistant qualification after two and a half years of studies. Student placement is essential in preparing highly skilled specialists and the college is very grateful to the network of pharmacies they have established for their support of the study process.

State Emergency Medical Service (SEMS) employees have the opportunity to upgrade their professional competencies and study the profession of emergency medicine physician’s assistant thanks to a successful collaboration between SEMS and the Latvian Association for Emergency Medicine.
