About Study Course
Objective
To provide students with knowledge in clinical areas – pathophysiology of diseases, clinical manifestations of nephrological diseases, evaluation of examinations, basic methods of treatment and pharmacotherapy options for renal and urinary tract diseases.
The study module comprises an integrated learning cycle in which the student is gradually introduced to the pathological physiology of a group of diseases, clinical pharmacology, clinical manifestations, examination possibilities, interpretation of examination data, principles and types of treatment and pharmacotherapy possibilities.
Prerequisites
Basic human anatomy, basic physiology and pathologies, medical biochemistry, pharmacology.
Learning outcomes
As a result of successfully completing the course, the student will have knowledge of the following:
• causes and mechanisms of kidney and urinary tract diseases;
• the most common clinical manifestations and complications of kidney and urinary tract diseases;
• options for kidney and urinary tract examination and interpretation of results;
• basic types of treatment of kidney and urinary tract diseases;
• pharmacotherapy options for kidney and urinary tract diseases.
The student will be able:
• to analyse and interpret the results of kidney and urinary tract examinations;
• to evaluate pharmacotherapy of nephrological patients.
The student will be able:
• in collaboration with the medical practitioners, to determine a pharmacotherapy plan for an individual patient with a kidney and urinary tract disease;
• to assess the advantages and disadvantages of pharmacotherapy methods in relation to the patient’s examination data;
• to monitor the progress of pharmacotherapy, predict side effects and plan the prevention thereof, and provide the necessary information to other medical specialists.
