The aim of the Institute of Oncology and Molecular Genetics is to carry out scientific and educational activities related to the acquisition and improvement of scientific qualifications in oncology and personalised medicine. It also aims to educate and inform healthcare professionals and the public about inherited and life-long oncological diseases and to conduct research into the genetic causes and characterisation of diseases, especially rare diseases, the use of biomarkers in diagnosis and disease prognosis.

The Institute of Oncology and Molecular Genetics is involved in national and international grants, cooperation programmes, research projects and clinical trials, and provides support for students, residents, and doctoral students in their research.
