Basics of Radiology (RAK_018)
About Study Course
Objective
To develop an understanding of the physical basis of various radiological examination methods, such as radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, scintigraphy, positron emission tomography, basics of image interpretation, diagnostic possibilities, as well as clinical indications and contraindications.
Prerequisites
Basics of physics, human normal anatomy, physiology, pathology.
Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students will have acquired the knowledge that will allow to:
1) explain the basic principles of various radiological techniques (X-ray, computed tomography, magnetic resonance, ultrasound, radionuclide imaging);
2) use radiological terms correctly;
3) distinguish between different types of images and examination planes of various radiological examinations;
4) know indications and contraindications of radiological examinations;
5) know the normal radiological anatomy.
On completion of the study course students will be able to:
1) use radiological terms;
2) distinguish between different types of radiological images;
3) recognize different organs in normal radiological images.
On completion of the study course, students will be able to analyse radiological reports and images and to formulate indications and contraindications for different radiological imaging methods.
