Objective

This course covers cosmetic product compounding, formulation chemistry, product development and manufacture, quality and stability. Means about the EU regulatory framework in terms of safety and claim substantiation, and Product Information File (PIF), which needs to be prepared for each cosmetic product placed on the EU market are covered in the course content.
During course different learning methods will be used: discussions, practical work and written tasks to promote generalization, systematization and comparison of different concepts and the obtained information.

Prerequisites

Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students will be able to:
• list and describe basic principles of cosmetic formulation;
• explain the functionality of each ingredient of cosmetic products;
• understand cosmetic product safety, legislation and labelling concepts.

Skills

Students will be able to:
• analyse and evaluate formulations of cosmetic products;
• compare products from different producers;
• analyse the information about cosmetic products.

Competence

The students will critically analyse and evaluate the information about cosmetic products and will understand basic manufacturing process.
