Objective

To acquire skills for team work in obstetrics in emergency situations (working together doctors and midwives) ensuring the assessment of the health status of women and newborns and timely diagnosis and treatment of health disorders.

Prerequisites

Anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system;
Physiological obstetrics;
Pathological obstetrics.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of the study course acquisition students gain understanding of the importance of evaluating the birth process, learn the methods of objective monitoring of the well-being of the fetus and pregnant woman, woman in labor and postpartum period and gain an understanding of the role of doctor and midwife in I, II and III indications, performance, interpretation of results, indications for performance of additional examinations, interpretation of results, patient documentation and their preparation for urgent operational action.

Skills

As a result of mastering the study course, students will have mastered specific examination methods and manipulations in obstetrics in emergency situations and filling in documentation. Will be able to listen to the fetal heartbeat and evaluate the CTG record. Will be able to act in emergency situations in obstetrics.

Competence

Students will acquire skills in team work in obstetrics in emergency situations (in collaboration with students; midwives and doctors) and cooperation with the patient and her relatives in the treatment process. As a result of the study course, students will be able to evaluate and apply appropriate clinical manipulations, medical devices and other activities to ensure optimal and safe patient care.
