Objective

Gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills of theoretical and organisational basis for the forensic investigation, understanding the basic principles of conducting forensic investigation and modern possibilities.

Tasks:
1. Develop students’ understanding of forensic technique; 2. Develop students’ understanding of theoretical and organisational basis of forensic investigation; 3. Develop students’ understanding of technical devices and methods for examination of evidence; 4. Develop students’ understanding of the possibilities of various types of forensic investigation.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

- The student has acquired knowledge of forensic technique and theoretical and organisational basis for forensic investigations; - The student has acquired knowledge of technical tools and methods for examination of physical evidence; - The student has acquired knowledge of the possibilities of various types of forensic investigation; - The student has acquired knowledge of collecting various types of samples for comparative study; - The student has acquired knowledge of creation and possibilities of forensic databases.
- The student is able to demonstrate basic and specialised knowledge of forensic techniques, part of which is in line with the level of highest achievements of the relevant field of science; - The student is able to demonstrate understanding of the most important concepts and regularities of the forensic techniques.

Skills

- Students are able to continuously structure their learning, analyse their level of knowledge and rationally improve it; select and evaluate the sources of literature and are able to develop their scientific research skills; - Students are able to demonstrate a scientific approach to tackling problems by making decisions and creative solutions in problem solving with responsibility and initiative, by doing work both individually and in a team and by managing other people’s work; - Students are able to use the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired in formulating and analytically describing the information obtained, the problems identified and possible solutions in a particular sector of science, explaining, arguing and discussing both with professionals and non-professionals in the area concerned; - Students are able to take responsibility for their decisions and activities, take critical decisions and find solutions under unforeseen and changing circumstances, adapt to new situations and be open to change, take leadership and initiative and respond to consequences, comply with ethical standards and demonstrate broad general knowledge and competence. Improve the ability to listen to different opinions.
- The student is able to take decisions independently on the application of technical tools and methods for detecting , documenting and removing physical evidence; able to apply independently various technical tools and methods in detecting, documenting and removing physical evidence; able to take decisions independently on transportation of various types of examination objects and traces for further examination at an institution of forensic investigation; able to independently take samples for comparative analysis; able to take full advantage of forensic databases in the detection of criminal offences.

Competence

- The student is able to use theoretical knowledge and skills in professional and personal development; - The student is able to offer not only formal solutions to the challenges of forensic sector but to find solutions that serve the wishes and priorities of the community (local community) and improve public administration in general, by demonstrating professional ethics; - The student is able to independently obtain, select and analyse the information, participate in the development of the relevant professional field and find solutions to the situation in the relevant scientific field.
- The student is able to take decisions independently on the application of the technical tool and method concerned in detecting, documenting and removing physical evidence; able to independently take samples for comparative analysis; able to take decisions independently on transportation of various types of examination objects for further examination at an institution of forensic investigation; able to use forensic databases in the detection of criminal offences.
