Objective

To develop understanding and acquire knowledge of the aetiology of infectious diseases, mode of transmission thereof, recognition of the main clinical signs, diagnostic possibilities, actions in emergency situations and the possibility of protection.

Prerequisites

In biology, chemistry, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, pathological physiology, pharmacology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of completing the study course, students will be able to do the following:
• recognise the symptoms of infectious diseases and act in emergency situations;
• describe the principles of laboratory examinations;
• evaluate the collected data set to understand the basic principles of treatment;
• assess preventive measures for each infection.

Skills

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to independently, taking into account the acquired knowledge, as well as based on the actions prescribed by the doctor, carry out preventive measures of the necessary content and form.

Competence

Students are able to provide emergency assistance to patients with infectious diseases, explain the importance of prevention and organise preventive measures.
