Objective

To develop student comprehension of psychological correlations of interpersonal relationships, importance of successful professional communication in the care process, to promote development and improvement of communication skills in positive cooperation with women, their family and other health care professionals.

Prerequisites

Knowledge in social sciences at the secondary school level.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students obtain knowledge of the communication structure, types, influential factors; understand the professional roles of midwife’s communication in the care process; obtain knowledge of aspects of professional communication; gain knowledge in conflictology.

Skills

Ability to successfully communicate with women and their family members, as well as persons involved in the care process.

Competence

Students understand the needs of patients in various communication situations during clinical care; understand the preconditions for successful interviewing; differentiate risk factors in development of potential conflicts and required behaviour for successful conflict resolution.
