Course level:Bachelor
Target audience:Dentistry
Branch of science:Surgery; Inorganic Chemistry

Objective

To provide a concise introduction to the principles of organic chemistry underlying biological chemistry and molecular biology.

Prerequisites

Organic chemistry within the secondary school programme level.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students describe organic compounds and explain their properties; know reactions of organic compounds and write corresponding equations; characterize structures and properties of biochemical compounds.

Skills

Students apply principles and methods of organic chemistry for approaches to biochemical complexities, such as haemoglobin structure, function and regulation, metabolic transformations of hexoses and pentoses

Competence

Students analyse, discuss and make conclusions on essentiality of certain organic compounds and reactions in living beings – microorganisms, plants, animals.
