Objective

to improve the quality of study process in the fields of information collection, extraction and processing by providing students with general overview on options for the information search in the field of medicine, in-depth skills in searching for medicine-related information in online databases and database PubMed.

Prerequisites

basic skills in computers, proficiency in the state and English languages.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of the course, students will have gained knowledge that allows to identity and evaluate reliable, verified and scientific information resources in the field of dentistry and medicine. Students will be able to demonstrate information search tools and to develop appropriate strategy for information search and apply critical thinking for the assessment of the obtained information. They will be able to apply Web 2.0 resources and opportunities for receiving and organising the current information in the field of dentistry.

Skills

Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to work independently with electronic resources in the field of medicine and dentistry, apply extended search skills for obtaining of electronic information. They will be able to carry out extended search options in on-line databases, the world's largest database of medical journals PubMed and to create accurate search strategies and save the obtained results.

Competence

Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills, perform the search of verified information of high quality. They will be able to analyse information search opportunities and situations, as well as to develop the appropriate plan for the information search. They will be able to apply critical analysis of the credibility and usefulness of the obtained information, its compliance with the topic and the specific situation.
