Objective

To improve the quality of study process in the fields of information collection, extraction and processing by providing students with general overview on options for the information search in the field of medicine and dentistry, in-depth skills in searching for medicine-related information in online databases and database PubMed.

Prerequisites

Basic skills in computers, proficiency in the state and English languages.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of the course, students will have gained knowledge allowing to identity and evaluate reliable, verified and scientific information resources in the field of dentistry and medicine. Students will be able to demonstrate information searching tools and develop appropriate strategy for information searching and apply critical thinking for the assessment of obtained information. They will be able to apply Web 2.0 resources and opportunities for the receiving and organizing of current information in the field of dentistry.

Skills

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to work independently with electronic resources in the field of medicine and dentistry, apply extended search skills for the obtaining of electronic information. They will be able to carry out the extended search options in online databases, the world's largest database of medical journals PubMed, and create accurate searching strategies and save the obtained results.
Students will develop their digital skills related to data, information and digital content management. Students will be able to use digital technologies, create a personal profile in information resources, adapt their activities according to copyright and licenses, as well as be able to find and cite authors from digital content.

Competence

Students, applying the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge, will be able to carry out high quality, evaluated information searches. They will independently analyse information search options and situations and will develop an appropriate search strategy. They will critically analyse the reliability and usefulness of the information found, its compliance with the topic and specific situation and they will create complete reference lists.
