Objective

To provide students with knowledge about the essence of gynaecological diseases, clinics, interpretation of diagnostic data, principles of treatment, prevention.

Prerequisites

Female anatomy, physiology, pathological anatomy, propedeutics of medicine, microbiology, pharmacology, organization of health care, epidemiology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of the course, students will have acquired knowledge that will allow:
• to understand the principles of menstrual disorders, menopause, hormonal therapy in gynaecology;
• to understand the outpatient medication treatment and care of gynaecological patients, screening for precancerous diseases of the genital organs;
• know family planning and contraception methods;
• know the limitations and need for medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding period;
• understand infections of the reproductive tract, uterine fibroids, benign ovarian tumours, aetiology of endometriosis, pathogenesis, prophylaxis.

Skills

• Interpret obtained information from a patient.
• Understand lab exams.
• Understand clinical diagnostics and pharmaceutical management of the disease.
• Knowledge how to inform patient about possible treatment options available.
• To consult patient on contraceptive use.

Competence

Students will be able to:
• Supervise ongoing pharmaceutical treatment.
• Analyse advantages and disadvantages of different pharmaceutical treatments.
• Prescribe needed pharmaceutical treatment with a supervising doctor.
