Preliminary Knowledge:
Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry.
Objective:
To form fundamental basic knowledge in chemistry, which will be helpful in biochemistry and nutrition science.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Independent work in acquirement of theoretic knowledge by writting chemical formulas and chemical equations in class studies in assistance of lecturer and independently at home; Independent work in purpose of examinations of knowledge (tests,colloquiums); Laboratiry work in purpose to explore chemical properties of substances and to detect the structure of substances in assistance of lecturer; Work with literature, gathering of information about certain substance or product and presentation in lesson. Tasks: To develop logic; To develop patience and precission required at work in the laboratory; to develop ability to present ones investigation, the ability to hear other thoughts and to discuss.
Assessment Criteria:
Students will be able to: -build a name of organic compound according to its chemical formula; -draw the chemical formula of organic compound according to its name; -identify the functional groups in molecule of organic compound and detect the class of organic compounds it belongs; -decribe the properties of the substance in accordance to its class of chemical substances; -anticipate possible mutual transformations of chemical substances.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:After studies students will be able : To identify the main classes of inorganic compounds; To describe the main characteristics of each class and ability of mutual transformations; To identify functional groups of organic compounds and main classes of organic compounds; To use the international nomenclature system IUPAC; To describe the main characteristics of organic compounds in accordance of belonging to certain class of compounds.
Skills:After studies students will be able: To collect information on certain organic compound (food spice) and to prepare presentation; To perform simple experiments; To perform simple analytic tests according to main functional groupsof organic compounds.
Competencies:After the successful acquirening of the basic study course of chemistry students will be able: To detect belonging of certain substance (for example, food spice) to a certain class of organic compounds; To predict the properties and reactions of the substance in different processes of food preparation and biochemical trnsformations.
